Agent Observability

Traditional logs capture API calls but miss why an agent made a decision or how one step led to the next. Agent observability stitches these events into a timeline that security, engineering, and audit teams can follow.

Agent observability typically captures:

  • Traces: End-to-end records of a task across models, tools, and sub-agents.
  • Tool calls: Which tools were invoked, with what arguments and results.
  • Data access: What information the agent read, wrote, or sent outward.
  • Identity context: Which agent, user, and credentials were involved.
  • Decisions and interventions: Policy outcomes, approvals, blocks, and kill-switch events.

Standards are emerging to make this data portable, including OpenTelemetry semantic conventions for generative AI. Without consistent telemetry, organizations cannot reconstruct incidents or tell whether an agent acted as intended.

Observability also enables behavioral baselines, so deviations such as new tools, unusual destinations, or sudden spikes in activity can be detected automatically.

How PointGuard AI Helps

PointGuard AI Agent Mission Control records agent identity, missions, actions, and policy decisions in one place, and Guardian Agent monitoring turns that telemetry into real-time detection and response. Teams get a complete, auditable view of agent behavior across tools and clouds.
