YOLO Mode (Auto-Approve)

Most coding agents ask before running shell commands or making changes. Developers tired of approving each step often enable auto-approve or bypass flags, letting the agent act freely.

Risks of auto-approve modes include:

  • Destructive commands: Deleting files or data without confirmation.
  • Injected actions: Malicious repository content triggering commands.
  • Credential misuse: Agents using local secrets in unintended ways.
  • Network exposure: Uploading code or data to external services.
  • Lost accountability: No record of a human decision behind actions.

Auto-approve is sometimes appropriate inside isolated containers with no secrets and no network. The danger comes from enabling it on a developer's main machine with full access.

Organizations should set policy for when auto-approve is allowed, enforce isolation where it is used, and monitor agents running without approvals.

How PointGuard AI Helps

PointGuard AI Agentic Endpoint Security detects coding agents running in auto-approve modes and enforces policy on the commands and destinations they may use, so speed does not come at the cost of control.
